August 10, 2010 -
Some facts about smaller pages and how people access the web

Back in March of this year, while speaking at a conference, one of Google's VP's of sales
claimed
<quote>"In three years time, desktops will be irrelevant.
In Japan, most research is done today on smart phones, not PCs,"</quote>
It's pretty obvious that Google is focusing on phones, especially through selling their "Android" systems. But what about sales of smart phones?
In the first quarter of 2009, 34.9 Million smartphones were sold worldwide. That number has
grown by half to an
amazing 54.7 Million units sold in the first quarter of 2010. That's one quarter's sales, during a time when many countries are facing major economic challenges.
Meanwhile laptops eclipsed desktop sales a few years ago, and a convergence of devices is happening with the folks using "netbooks", tablet PC's like the iPad,
and phones like the iPhone and similar.

This means people are relying on handheld devices to access the web in greater numbers, especially worldwide. That's the main reason we made
BigPinky.com as a small-sized, fast-loading webpage. We know most of you will be surfing on handheld gadgets in the months ahead.

July 2010 - We decided to add some bigger pages to go with our smallerpage site.
This is mainly to present some photos in a larger format, and to allow articles with photos. The smallerpage site is
the default landing page for Big Pinky because the most rapidly growing means of
accessing the web today is via "smart" phones. Big pages are very annoying to phone users.

We like the Smallerpage concept. Follow the link above, check it out, and see what you think.
